At Black Diamond Group, safety is at the core of everything we do, and our values-based culture embraces this commitment as a top priority. Our goal is an incident-free workplace – one without injuries and occupational illnesses – and to achieve this, we have built a robust, top-down safety program with support, understanding and adherence across our Company.
Our team members know safety is a shared responsibility and together we are the first and last line of defence to keeping ourselves and all those at our offices, branches, yards, and project sites safe and well. Collectively, we are committed to occupational health and safety (OHS), whether team members spend their days around heavy equipment in our yards, travelling to meet clients on site, visiting worksites to scope out locations, helping with the installation of lodging and accommodations, or completing administrative work in our offices.
“Simply put, safety is paramount to our operations,” said Trevor Haynes, Chairman & CEO. “There is nothing more important than maintaining safe working conditions and ensuring our team members, contractors, suppliers, customers – all stakeholders – are healthy and make it home safely at the end of each day.”
In 2023, our rolling Total Recordable Incident Frequency (TRIF) was 0.22 as we exited the year, and our Near Miss Frequency Rate (NMFR) was 9.27, both indicating our approach and programs are highly effective.
We are proud of our performance, and all that we do to keep health and safety at the forefront – from Safety Moments and monthly Safety Scoop communications to frequent and mandatory safety training, our Joint Health and Safety Committee, Regulatory Audits and beyond.
“Having a safety-first culture is not about eliminating risks that exist, but rather keeping attention on the fact that incidents can take place anywhere at any time,” said Michael Heeb, VP, Safety, Talent Development & Sustainability. “It’s about recognizing that our ability to keep each other safe comes from our actions, diligence and attention to the environment around us.”
