Each year, the Modular Building Institute (MBI) recognizes excellence in modular construction, rewarding projects submitted by companies around the world at the MBI Awards of Distinction.
On the final evening of the World of Modular conference and tradeshow, awards are presented in a variety of categories, for both permanent and relocatable buildings. Excellence in "green" modular construction and marketing are also recognized.
This year, Black Diamond Group is thrilled to announce that we took home two honourable mentions for the following projects:
- Permanent Education under 10,000 sq. ft.: City of Burnaby Daycare
- Permanent Dorm under 10,000 sq. ft.: Modular Dorm Addition for CN Rail
City of Burnaby Daycare
In November 2019, Black Diamond Group’s MSS business in B.C., Britco, embarked on its 14-month contract with the City of Burnaby, creating a comfortable, nurturing daycare environment that featured an open concept and functional spaces for both children and adults occupying the space daily. By March 2021, the team delivered a 2,016 sq. ft., four-module, modern, fully accessible and environmentally conscious daycare centre with custom space-saving solutions and open concept layout so the community’s children can learn, grow and play safely and comfortably.

Modular Dorm Addition for CN Rail
Midway through the Burnaby Daycare project, Britco began work on the Modular Dorm addition for CN Rail in Boston Bar, B.C. In just over 40 days, our teams built and assembled a turnkey workforce lodging addition to the 20-suite dormitory delivered by Britco previously. The dormitory addition features 14 private suites with central washrooms, laundry and changerooms, that complemented the client’s original staff housing complex, while meeting stringent building codes that exceed the BC Energy Efficiency Act and prioritize worker comfort.

“Both of these projects were very challenging to complete due to complex scopes of work and very demanding clients,” says Christoph Neufeld, VP, MSS Canada West. “The Langley Team worked very hard to execute the work and these buildings continue to showcase great examples of custom modular buildings that we can design, build and supply to our customers.”
These awards demonstrate our continued commitment to innovation, excellence and customer service. Congratulations to everyone involved!
