On Thursday, May 16th, Black Diamond Group proudly supported Moose Hide Campaign Day as team members handed out Moose Hide pins in the lobby of our Calgary Head Office building, bringing awareness to the importance of this day.
What is the Moose Hide Campaign?
The Moose Hide Campaign is a day of recognition, wherein men and women across Canada don a small square of moose hide over their hearts, and fast from sunrise to sunset, to represent their commitment to ending violence against Indigenous women and children.
The campaign found its start in 2011 following a moose hunt along the infamous Highway of Tears in B.C., which is heavily associated with countless missing and murdered Indigenous women. Co-founder Paul Lacerte watched as his daughter and co-founder, Raven, skinned the moose they had successfully hunted. He thought about the significance of where they were hunting and what he would do to protect his daughter from a life of violence.
To date, over five million moose hide pins have been distributed to communities, schools, and workplaces across Canada.
