Recently, Trevor Haynes, Chairman & CEO, sat down with Adam Legge, President of the Business Council of Alberta, for a candid conversation on the C-Suite Unplugged podcast.
In the episode, Trevor reflects on his career path – from early experiences that shaped his entrepreneurial approach, to the mentors who influenced his leadership style, and the realities of steering a company of Black Diamond’s scale. He also speaks to the behaviours and people who continue to drive our values-based culture and performance today.
A central part of how we Create A Better Way is striving to leave things better than we found them, whether that be through serving our customers, or engaging with our networks and ecosystem through our community investment geared towards youth, families, or sport.
“Harley Hotchkiss asked me many years ago, ‘Please make sure you leave things better than you found them, so that other young people like you have similar opportunity,’” shares Trevor Haynes. “As I get older, I think about that comment, and I think it’s well-put—let’s make sure we leave it better than we found it.”
The conversation explores how Black Diamond Group has grown and evolved, what a day in the life of a CEO looks like, and the lessons he’s carried through decades in Alberta’s business community.
Trevor’s reflections provide a thoughtful look at the challenges, opportunities, and decisions that have guided his journey and Black Diamond’s growth. Above all, they reinforce how innovation, our values-based culture, and people remain at the heart of the Company’s success.
