Throughout June, Black Diamond Group proudly celebrated National Indigenous History Month by recognizing the rich cultures, histories and contributions of First Nations, Métis and Inuit Peoples.
As a Company with roots in Canada, operating on unceded and Treaty lands across the country, we are committed to ensuring our team members continue to learn about and engage with Indigenous perspectives, culture and knowledge.
Learning Through Culture and Connection

Our Calgary Head Office team gathered at Prince’s Island Park on June 16 for a hands-on Hoop Dancing workshop led by our Indigenous Relations Summer Student, Danyka LaBelle, and her sister, Jaityn. As proud Cree and Métis women, they shared the rich cultural storytelling behind this traditional dance, offered personal insights into their heritage, and delivered an engaging performance that left a lasting impression on all who attended.

Later in the month, our Indigenous Relations team partnered once again with Aspen Properties to host the second annual Indigenous Artisan Market at Millennium Tower. Featuring more than 20 Indigenous artists and makers, the event was a vibrant celebration of Indigenous creativity, culture, and entrepreneurship. It brought together employees, tenants, and the wider community in support of Indigenous artisans.
Recognizing and Supporting Indigenous Resilience
Our Indigenous Relations team also joined the K’ómoks First Nation on Vancouver Island to take part in their National Indigenous Peoples Day festival. From live performances, to river walks and knowledge-sharing sessions, the event was a powerful reminder of the resilience and richness of Indigenous cultures. Our team contributed to event setup and participated throughout the day, strengthening relationships and standing in solidarity with the community in celebration of Indigenous culture and identity.

To engage employees nationwide, we launched an Indigenous History Month activity card encouraging participation in cultural experiences - from reading books by Indigenous authors, attending Powwows to exploring virtual tours, music and podcasts. Participants were entered to win an Indigenous Box, a curated collection of goods from Indigenous entrepreneurs.
