Challenge

Office Space Requirements for Rapidly Growing University

A growing regional university in British Columbia was undergoing major infrastructure improvements to keep pace with a rapid expanding faculty at the University. The needs were significant: relocate over 150 faculty members requiring individual and private offices into temporary modular buildings while maintaining a tight community within a close proximity to the rest of the school.

Solution

Delivering a Sense of Community to the Faculty Members

The University went to tender and Britco was awarded the project: 21 separate double-wide offices, totaling over 24,000 square feet. Each building was equipped with eight individual offices and the heating/cooling systems required for the big temperature swings between winter and summer. The site had a severe slope requiring careful placement with the assistance of a crane and an experienced site crew. Upon completion, to bring a sense of community to the faculty that were relocated to these temporary facilities, the faculty nick-named the group of buildings: “The Village”.
